Study of the Status of Evidence-Based Decision-Making Among Managers Affiliated with the Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Yazd

Abstract
Introduction: Health systems consistently use significant resources; therefore, decision-making based on scientific evidence is essential to optimize costs and prevent resource wastage. This study investigated the status of evidence-based decision-making among managers affiliated with the Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Yazd in 2023.

Methods: This applied, descriptive-analytical study was conducted cross-sectionally among the deputy directors and senior managers of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Yazd, as well as the heads of faculties and teaching hospitals in Yazd city. The entire population was surveyed through a census approach. Data were collected using a questionnaire assessing the status of evidence-based decision-making and analyzed using t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient in SPSS software version 21.

Results: Of the 65 managers surveyed, the most were male (76.9%). The largest group consisted of staff managers of the Research and Technology Vice-Chancellery (19.6%). The average scores for implementing the steps of "Analyzing the current situation and priorities" and "Building capacity and defining goals" among the managers were above 7, indicating a favorable status. However, managers performed moderately in other steps and domains of evidence-based decision-making.

Conclusion: Providing specialized training, fostering greater opportunities for employee interaction in decision-making, encouraging the exchange of opinions and participation, and increasing access to information can create the necessary conditions for evidence-based decision-making.
