English

Introduction

Fertility rate changing population structure. It has a special place in demographic studies. The fertility behaviors of a society can be studied in different ways. One of these methods is to examine the interval between marriage to the first birth. The purpose of this study was to investigate the demographic factors affecting on the interval between marriage to the first birth.

Materials and Methods

This cross-sectional study was performed on 160 women referred to urban health centers in Esfarayen in 2016. Data were collected using checklists. R3.0.1 software and Cox survival regression were used for data analysis.

Results

In this study, more than 80% of women (130 persons) and 60% of men (97 persons) were under 25 years old age. The mean interval between marriage and first birth was 2.6 ± 1.4 years. There was a significant relationship (p <0.05) between maternal age and education maternal by using the Cox regression model.

Conclusion

In recent years, we have seen an increase in the interval between marriage to first birth, which has resulted in a decrease in the fertility rate. Considering the demographic factors influencing this distance, it is recommended to pay more attention to social and cultural factors in population planning.
