Investigating the relationship between job stress and workplace quality of life in pre-hospital emergency personnel in Neyshabur County, in 2024

Abstract
Introduction

Pre-hospital emergency personnel, as first responders in emergencies, face stressful situations. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between job stress and workplace quality of life of pre-hospital emergency personnel at Neyshabur University of Medical Sciences.

Materials and Methods

This cross-sectional study was conducted in a descriptive-analytical manner. A total of 171 employees were included in the study. The data collection tool was a 3-part questionnaire including demographic information, Walton’s Quality of Work Life Questionnaire, and the occupational safety and health stress questionnaire. After collection, the data were analyzed using SPSS.v19 software using descriptive statistical tests (mean, standard deviation, and frequency) and inferential statistics (Independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation). A P value of <0.05 was considered as a significant level.

Results

The results of the study showed that among the staff working in the pre-hospital emergency department, there is a moderate level of job stress (89.09 ± 16.02). The workplace quality of life score was also reported to be at a moderate level (91.35 ± 16.59). There was an inverse and significant relationship between job stress and workplace quality of life in pre-hospital emergency personnel (Pearson correlation coefficient: -0.501 and P < 0.001).

Conclusion

Providing appropriate solutions to reduce job stress can increase the workplace quality of life and job productivity, and ultimately improve the quality of health care. The results of this study will help identify interventions focusing on organizational aspects to improve the health quality of pre-hospital emergency staff.
